Marcelyn is ONE!!!

Well that's quite old news by now that January is almost over. Marcelyn Rose Lofstrom was born OVER a year ago. I just can't believe that. She is not quite walking steadily, although she did walk across the living room quite triumphantly :)

January and the new year (Happy New Year btw) cause one to think back and reflect. I made Marcelyn a couple of scrap books for her birthday of her first year. WOW! It was a full year.  Liberty moved into a new building and is still remodeling. That story is blog post in its self. I will say this though Marcelyn was born on the 5th and papers were sign on the 6th for the new building. Major renovations to the main floor started and we moved in Palm Sunday. All renovations should be done in April.
2016 looks like it will be a fun year too. Chris goes to an annual men's conference in Colorado this weekend and that kicks off lots of events I'm currently drawing a blank on. Yes mission trips are being planned and I'll post details when we know them.

I mostly wanted to tell a few stories from "the hood" God has been teaching me a lot lately about my missionary heart.  I try and call our neighborhood nice things like "neighborhood" or "community" instead of "trailer park" or "mobile home park" but it seems the last few months things have just gotten bad. Bad enough that I was getting depressed. I know I've gotten to this point once before, but this time it was almost a helpless, hopeless depressed feeling mixed with anger.  It took me a week to figure it out, but God finally showed me that I need to be praying more.  He also reminded me that He sent me here (to Hays) as a missionary. My mission field is constant and I need to quit getting upset when the world doesn't live up to my standards of the way I was taught to live. They don't know any different. That's probably the biggest shocker I've learned in the last couple of years as I've started to FINALLY gain trust with some families and build some friendships.  I've learned that they all want what we want, to have a nice house, yard, car and life.  The sad thing though is they don't understand that it takes constant upkeep and maintenance to have these things. Most importantly though is that it takes a solid relationship with God. I said I wanted to tell a story though. Here goes.
It's a of a girl with long blonde hair. She comes from a home that's one of the most dilapidated in the neighborhood with a mom that's rarely home. Yet she is the friendliest most outgoing person in the neighborhood. She knows every single kid that has lived here more than a week. However, her school that she's gone to for the last 4+ years closed. She has been coming to our Wednesday night meetings for about 2 years now and made a good friend through that. This August was her first day in a new school and one of her friends from Wednesday nights was in her class. She had already been going to school there for a while and happily made the long blonde hair girl feel right at home. It's my prayer that this long blonde haired girl falls in love with church and sees that she needs to be there.
The other story I wanted to tell is also of another girl. She's (was at the time) very small, shy and insecure. She started coming on Wednesday nights from just around the corner from where our house is. One day I was doing some follow up visits getting t-shirt orders or handing out flyers for VBS...I don't rememeber exactly, but this little girls mom was at home. We had talked shortly here and there, but I had more time this time and she asked me "Are you Molly Dinkel?" I answered "I used to be" She went on to tell me that she remembered me from when we were kids and we would play out a mutual friends house. Hah wow. As we got to know that family I also went to school with some of them too.

Well I think that's all I have time for in this post. It's my goal to post at least once a month and send out e-mails quarterly. I know I've said this in years past, but I'm going to give it another go and hopefully it becomes more of a routine this year. Also I post most regularly on instagram. @cmlofstrom

7 months old

I can't believe 7 months ago this little lady was just joining the world. It doesn't seem like it's been that long yet, I'm not sure what I did before I had her....besides sleep 😂😜.  With all the abortion talk in the news lately it makes me think of how the world today discounts how much this one little life influences the world around them.  Marcelyn is only 7 months old, but she has impacted hundreds of lives already.  Just by her simple smile or cute expression. She may not be bringing people into the kingdom yet, but she's already making an impact in her world.

Marcelyn update!

Wow! Two months have passed 😳 and Marcelyn will be 9 months old.
Crawling is her favorite mode of transportation. Walking isn't too far away. This past week she has figured out how to pull herself up and more importantly when she starts to fall she sits down.

And a whole other month has gone by since writing that paragraph. Marcelyn is still mostly  crawling. She will stand upright momentarily, but she doesn't trust herself to do much past that.
Last night she stood and clapped it was the cutest thing 😊
Well I better call it good and add some pictures and post this before I get interrupted.
Selfie Practice

The ways I find her napping make me giggle. I laid her down with her head to the right (instead of down) and she was covered by the blanket she's laying ontop of. ☺️

Marcelyn update

#Marceyupdate mastered sitting up without falling due to loss of balance. The occasional topple happens when a toy is out of reach or she's distracted watching the ceiling fan. Rolling around is the latest mode of transportation
And she gets upset when she can't going the way she wants or when she wants to sit up. It's hard to believe she will be 7 months old in a few days 😳

Vacation 2015

We were very blessed this year to share our vacation with my parents in Estes Park by way of Colorado Springs and Denver. We stayed one night with Chris' Aunt in Denver and explored the next day before joining my parents in Estes Park. Here are some pictures of Denver and the Springs:

While driving through the springs we encountered a little rain. Just before we got to this area they had some major rainfall.

Marcelyn is sitting up on her own pretty well now. This was at Chris' Aunt's house. We went and had sushi that evening. It was fun. The next day we did some shopping and visited the Capitol building. Chris realized we had not been there together.

I had forgotten how pretty of a building it is.

Then it was on to Estes Park.
Marcelyn did pretty well traveling in the altitude. Her sheep from Grandpa is one of her favorite toys. However nothing seemed to help much between Boulder and Estes Park....
The next day Chris and I did some exploring while Grandpa and Grandma stayed at the camper with the Marcemallow. This spot was called Rainbow Curve.

Well it's later than I thought and Chris has more pictures on his phone I haven't imported yet.
To Be Continued.

June/July

July is here already 😳
Marcelyn is growing way too fast. Today was her 6 month check up. She weighed in at 14lbs. 11oz. And is 25 inches tall! Her latest discovery has been her ears and her tongue. She loves to copy mom and dad by sticking it out and blowing drool bubbles.

Most of all she LOVES taking her picture or seeing her reflection.

Well a week went by super fast 😳
I'm writing to you now from Colorful Colorado!  Be watching instagram for picture updates!!

May update

Wow I didn't realize it has almost been a month since my last post!!!!
Teething has definitely commenced. None have cut through, but all the signs are there so hopefully one makes an appearance soon. I'm perfectly fine if it doesn't for a while yet, but I'm sure Marcelyn would tell you otherwise. Her "babble" has moved on to full on sentences. It's so much fun to hear her wake up from a nap talking away to herself.....not so great at 4:00 am 😑
Anyway, the reason I'm posting is I found this picture
It seemed to need more than Just a simple share on Facebook.  The last four years have been pretty tough and I have very often wondered why we are where we are. We have been very blessed to have quiet neighbors that live next door, but I can't help but think of the parents of some and really most of the kids that we bring to church. God has placed them in my life to teach me, but God also placed me in their life to show them Jesus. He didn't place me here to have preach at them and tell them how much they need Jesus in their life. I'm here simply to show them my life with Jesus is why I'm blessed. I have learned a lot living in this neighborhood, and it's hard to believe in June it will have been 4 years.

I have been amazed at how much of a battle it has been to stay above the stigma of living in a trailer park....although I cringe each time I see or hear someone use the phrase and want to say mobile home community, MOBILE HOME COMMUNITY. Thankfully we live in the nicest....well what used to be the nicest community in town. Two company ownership changes and three managers later things kinda go south pretty fast. My heart has changed towards the neighborhood though. Rather than simply living here to gain some equity and buying power for our next home I have learned we are here to be a light and an example. Which now can simply be done by having a nice yard. And even that is a battle....just ask my husband.
